In the Beginning...
The founders of the Academy of Science of St. Louis envisioned the mission of the Academy to be a global one. To that end, the Academy research publication, Transactions of the Academy of Science of St. Louis, was widely distributed to libraries and research institutions throughout the world. These documents still exist in the original print form and are considered an important resource for many disciplines of science and engineering.
The Transactions are what makes up the majority of the Academy’s collection today. This collection contains information and papers on the natural history and geology of the American Midwest. These papers were also distributed to libraries and research institutions around the world.

About The Academy of Science of St. Louis today:
Advancing the public understanding of science and promoting interest in the sciences to students and adults through accessible, year-round seminars and educational initiatives.

The Academy is an independent science organization, supported entirely through community contributions, and the driving force behind scientific progress and awareness in St. Louis for more than 150 years.
